Today's Girls... Tomorrow's Leaders

Today's Girl's ... Tomorrow's Leaders (TGTL) seeks to address inequalities that create barriers for girls, and to meet new challenges to girls’ health and well-being.

Since 1996, United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley (UWMBMV) has supported out-of-school time programs and staff to effectively meet the needs of girls. Today’s Girls…Tomorrow’s Leaders fills the void of too little gender-specific or gender-sensitive programming in order to help girls aged 7-18 achieve academic success and become responsible, involved members of society.

Through Today’s Girls…Tomorrow’s Leaders, UWMBMV builds the capacity of programs to meet the unique needs of girls for positive development by:

  • Creating mentoring relationships and nurturing environments that focus on helping girls succeed
  • Delivering effective approaches to programming for girls, in both girl-specific and co-educational settings
  • Expanding outreach and access to girl-serving programs

TGTL has provided more than 250,000 girls with innovative programs and opportunities. This initiative was made possible by an investment of more than $10 million in community-based programs that pair girls with mentors, provide them with technical skills, and educate them about healthy lifestyles.

Today's Girls...Tomorrow's Leaders Priority Areas:

  • Academic Achievement
  • Physical Health
  • Well-Being
  • Leadership Development
